Pill to erase bad memories: Ethical furore over drugs ‘that threaten human identity’

A drug which appears to erase painful memories has been developed by scientists.

The astonishing treatment could help sufferers of post-traumatic stress disorder and those whose lives are plagued by hurtful recurrent memories.

But British experts said the breakthrough raises disturbing ethical questions about what makes us human.

They also warned it could have damaging psychological consequences, preventing those who take it from learning from their mistakes.

Dr Daniel Sokol, a lecturer in medical ethics at St George’s, University of London, said: ‘Removing bad memories is not like removing a wart or a mole. It will change our personal identity since who we are is linked to our memories.

‘It may perhaps be beneficial in some cases, but before eradicating memories, we must reflect on the knock-on effects that this will have on individuals, society and our sense of humanity.’

Russell’s Opinion

What do you think of Neuroscience developing pills that could potentially erase your memory? I don’t know about you, but to me it seems a bit excessive. Sure their are people with phobia’s all around the world that could be cured, but are those irrational fears untreatable by any other means than this pill?

I have heard stories of people being able to have tremendous breakthroughs with their phobia’s simply by taking the time and courage to expose themselves to it. For example, a person who has a phobia of bees is sent into a beehive with clothing. After the initial paralyzing from fear, the patient after time was able to rid their phobia of bees completely.

Of course we can’t expect that this method would work for everybody with any type of phobia. I do however wonder about the true reasons for developing a permanent “date-rape” drug, this time labelled under the convenience of helping people with phobias and trauma. To me, it is a scary proposition to have a pill that is capable of erasing your memories, good, bad or indifferent.

No this isn’t a conspiracy theory post. Although a person only has to look into our history to predict the future. Humanity so far has an awful track record when it comes to using weapons on each other. We have been proven to use every single weapon that we have conceived on one another. If you look at all the chemical, atomic, and biological weapons ever developed, they all have been tested against the population of this world.

With all this “phobia” of a New World Order Government it is amazing that we don’t see the separate but related elements that are hurling us towards this fate. Whether it is micro-chipping your children, replacing real money with electronic money, or now using pills to erase memory, these are all technologies who’s potential risk greatly outweighs the benefits. If you do not notice the connections yet, perhaps you will notice the them. All the above elements have on thing in common. Control.

Wake up people. Your time is now. Whether these are sinister solutions with a hidden agenda or genuine gifts meant to help humanity the choice is always yours. You decide what happens by giving your vote, paying your taxes and supplying your attention. You can help by avoiding being distracted 24/7 with nonesense media and entertainment. Everything in life requires moderation. The time is now to moderate what is going on now while we still have the choice.
